INTRODUCTION

PRO 9 500MG INJECTION contains Progesterone which belongs to the group of medicines called Steroid hormones. It is used to treat amenorrhea (missed periods) and abnormal uterine bleeding (abnormal bleeding from the womb cavity) due to hormonal imbalance in the absence of organic pathology like submucous fibroids or uterine cancer.

It can also be used as a progesterone supplementation in women (34 years of age and younger) who cannot use vaginal preparations and undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) or treatment in an Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) program.

Before receiving PRO 9 500MG INJECTION inform your doctor if you have any liver, kidney, or heart problems. You must also inform your doctor if you have diabetes, asthma, epilepsy or migraine headaches before receiving PRO 9 500MG INJECTION as a precaution.

PRO 9 500MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients with breast cancer, ovarian cancer, uterine cancer, blood clot problems or unusual vaginal bleeding. PRO 9 500MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in breast-feeding women, children and adolescents (below 18 years of age).

PRO 9 500MG INJECTION can be used during the first three months of pregnancy. However, it should not be used in women who have ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy outside the womb) and in women who had a history of idiopathic jaundice or other skin problems during their earlier pregnancies.

The most common side effects of receiving PRO 9 500MG INJECTION are pain, redness, itching, irritation or swelling at the injection site, vaginal bleeding, headache, bloating, nausea and constipation. Inform your doctor if any of these side effects bothers you.

Talk to your doctor immediately if you experience any changes in body weight or feel depressed while receiving PRO 9 500MG INJECTION.

USES OF PRO 9 500MG INJECTION

It is used:

To treat amenorrhea and abnormal uterine bleeding due to hormonal imbalance
As a progesterone supplementation in women (34 years of age and younger) who cannot use vaginal preparations and undergoing IVF or treatment in an assisted reproductive Technology (ART) program
HOW PRO 9 500MG INJECTION WORKS

PRO 9 500MG INJECTION helps you to become pregnant and to stay pregnant by increasing uterine wall receptivity for implantation of an embryo and maintaining the pregnancy after an embryo is implanted. It also regulates hormonal balance in the body and corrects abnormal uterine bleeding.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

PRO 9 500MG INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse either into the muscles (as intramuscular injection) or under the skin (as subcutaneous injection). Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you according to your age, body weight and disease condition.

SIDE EFFECTS OF PRO 9 500MG INJECTION
COMMON
Pain, redness, itching, irritation or swelling at the injected site
Uterine cramps
Vaginal bleeding or discharge
Headache
Bloating, stomach pain, constipation, nausea, vomiting
Breast pain or tenderness
Tingling or uncomfortable irritation or itching of the vaginal skin and the surrounding area
Hardening or bruising of area around the administration site
Extreme tiredness, exhaustion, lethargy
UNCOMMON
Mood changes
Dizziness, insomnia (problems in sleeping)
Stomach and intestinal discomfort (stomach tenderness, gas, painful cramps, retching)
Skin rashes (raised, itchy bumps, wheals or red, warm, dry, cracked, blistered or swollen skin)
Breast swelling or enlargement
Feeling hot
General feeling of discomfort or pain
RARE

Inform your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects after receiving PRO 9 500MG INJECTION:

Lower stomach pain, thirst, nausea and sometimes vomiting, passing low quantities of concentrated urine, weight gain (signs of overstimulation of the ovaries)
Feeling extremely depressed
Jaundice (yellow skin and white of the eyes)
Severe allergic reaction which may cause trouble in breathing, swelling of the face and throat or a severe rash
Heart attack (signs include chest or back pain, deep aching and throbbing in one or both arms, sudden breathlessness, sweating, dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea, palpitations) 
Stroke (signs include severe headache or vomiting, dizziness, vision or speech changes, weakness or numbness of an arm or leg)
Blood clots in the eyes or anywhere in the body (eye pain, pain and swelling in the ankles, feet and hands)
Severe headache or bulging of the eye and changes in vision
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Nausea:

Take regular sips of cold drink. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily, fried or spicy foods. Do not lie down or sleep immediately after eating. If nausea does not improve, inform your doctor.

Headache:

Apply hot or cold-water bag on your head. Drink plenty of fluids. Try taking rest in a quiet and dark room. Apply pain relieving balm on your forehead if necessary. Inform your doctor if your headache does not reduce.

Constipation:

Eat plenty of fiber rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, cereals and drink plenty of water. Do minimal exercises (such as walking). If the symptom does not improve, inform your doctor.

Stomach pain:

Try to rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly or try to have smaller meals more frequently. If the symptom gets worse inform your doctor.

Bloating:

Try to increase your physical activity during daytime. Do not or limit the intake of carbonated drinks. Avoid eating foods which causes bloating such as beans, lentils and others. Always eat smaller and frequent meals and chew your food properly while eating. Inform your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY

PRO 9 500MG INJECTION can be used during the first three months of pregnancy if prescribed by the doctor. It is strictly not recommended for use in women with ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy outside the womb) and in women who had a history of idiopathic jaundice, severe itching or blisters of the skin. Consult your doctor before receiving PRO 9 500MG INJECTION.

BREASTFEEDING

PRO 9 500MG INJECTION is not recommended for use during breast-feeding. Therefore, consult your doctor before receiving PRO 9 500MG INJECTION.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizzy or drowsy after receiving PRO 9 500MG INJECTION.

ALCOHOL

Avoid consumption of alcohol while receiving PRO 9 500MG INJECTION.

KIDNEY

PRO 9 500MG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems. Consult your doctor before receiving PRO 9 500MG INJECTION.

LIVER

PRO 9 500MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients who have or had severe liver problems. It should be used with caution in patients with liver problems. Consult your doctor before receiving PRO 9 500MG INJECTION.

ALLERGY

Do not receive PRO 9 500MG INJECTION if you are allergic to Progesterone or any other ingredients of this medicine.  

LUNGS

PRO 9 500MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients who have or had any blood clots in the lungs (pulmonary embolism). It should be used with caution in patients with asthma. Consult your doctor before receiving PRO 9 500MG INJECTION.

HEART DISEASE

PRO 9 500MG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with heart problems. Consult your doctor before receiving PRO 9 500MG INJECTION.

OTHERS

PRO 9 500MG INJECTION is not recommended for use if you:

Have unusual vaginal bleeding (other than normal periods)
Had miscarriage and your doctor suspects about the existence of few more tissue in the uterus
Have known or suspected cancer of the breast, ovaries or uterus
Had or have blood clots in the legs (thrombophlebitis), eyes (retinal thrombosis) or anywhere in the body (venous or arterial thromboembolism) or stroke
Have porphyria disorder (an inherited blood disorder)

Before receiving PRO 9 500MG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you:

Have fits
Have migraine headache (severe headache affecting one side of the head)
Have diabetes (high blood sugar)
Have depression

Use in pediatrics:

PRO 9 500MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (under 18 years of age). Consult your child’s doctor for advice.

Use in geriatrics:

There is no proper information about the use of PRO 9 500MG INJECTION in elderly patients (aged 65 years and above). Therefore, consult your doctor for advice.

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Before receiving PRO 9 500MG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

Medicines used to treat epilepsy (Ex. carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital)
Rifampicin (used to treat bacterial infections)
Medicines used to treat fungal infections (Ex. griseofulvin, ketoconazole)
St. john’s wort (used to treat depression)
Cyclosporine (used to suppress immune function to prevent rejection of transplanted organ)
Medicines used to treat diabetes (Ex. glimepiride, metformin)

 Overdosage:

PRO 9 500MG INJECTION will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital and so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However, consult your doctor if you experience any unusual symptoms such as drowsiness after receiving PRO 9 500MG INJECTION.
