INTRODUCTION

NIKOS 5MG TABLET contains Nicorandil which belongs to theroup of medicines called Potassium channel activators. It is used in adults to prevent and reduce painful signs of angina pectoris who cannot take heart medicines called beta-blockers or calcium antagonists.    

Angina pectoris is a type of temporary chest pain or discomfort which occurs as a result of decreased blood flow to the heart muscle which is usually not a heart attack but a sign of increased risk for heart attack that isenerally characterized by symptoms such as squeezing pressure, heaviness, tightness or pain in the chest that can occur sudden or recur over time.    

Avoid consumption of alcohol during treatment with NIKOS 5MG TABLET as it may reduce your blood pressure even more.       

NIKOS 5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with severe low blood pressure, low blood volume, heart problems (such as cardiogenic shock, left ventricular failure with low filling pressure or cardiac decompensation).       

Before taking NIKOS 5MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you have lung problems such as pulmonary oedema (condition marked by fluid build-up in lungs), hepatic impairment or kidney problems.       

NIKOS 5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women. It is also not recommended for use in children and adolescents (below 18 years of age). Consult your doctor before taking it.     

The most common side effects of taking NIKOS 5MG TABLET are headache, dizziness, skin flushing, nausea, vomiting, weakness and rapid or forceful heartbeat. Consult your doctor if any of the symptoms worsen.

HOW NIKOS 5MG TABLET WORKS

NIKOS 5MG TABLET works by increasing blood flow through the heart vessels, leading to improved blood and oxygen supply to the heart muscle thus reducing the workload of the heart which results in reducing the frequency and severity of angina attacks.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take NIKOS 5MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with alass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

Stop taking NIKOS 5MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

Red, itchy, swollen or watery eyes including inflammation or ulcer in cornea or conjunctiva (parts of eye)
Signs of ulcers in mouth, stomach, large and small intestine or anus such as blood in stools, vomit, fistula (abnormal opening between organs), abscess (pus collection at infected site) and weight loss
Signs of diverticular disease (infected colon) such as ulcers in the skin,enital tract and nasal passages or around a stoma (artificial opening for waste removal) 
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Nausea:

Take NIKOS 5MG TABLET with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy foods. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

Vomiting:

Get adequate rest. Drink sufficient amount of fluids, especially water. Have small sips if you feel sick. Eat when you feel hungry. Do not take any medicine for vomiting without asking your doctor. Consult your doctor if the symptomets worse.

Headache:

Drink ample amount of water.et adequate rest. Try to be relaxed and stress free. Apply pain relieving balm on your forehead if necessary. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

Dizziness:

Lie down until dizziness isone, thenet up slowly. Move slowly and carefully, do not hurry.et adequate rest. Drink plenty of water and other fluids. Avoid smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY

NIKOS 5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women. Consult your doctor before taking NIKOS 5MG TABLET.

BREASTFEEDING

NIKOS 5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking NIKOS 5MG TABLET.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizzy or weak after taking NIKOS 5MG TABLET.

ALCOHOL

Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking NIKOS 5MG TABLET because it might further lower your blood pressure.

KIDNEY

NIKOS 5MG TABLET should be taken with caution in patients with kidney problems. Consult your doctor before taking NIKOS 5MG TABLET.

LIVER

NIKOS 5MG TABLET should be taken with caution in patients with liver disease such as fibrosis of liver and chronic liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking NIKOS 5MG TABLET.

ALLERGY

Do not take NIKOS 5MG TABLET if you are allergic to Nicorandil or any other ingredients of this medicine.

LUNGS

NIKOS 5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients having lung disease such as pulmonary oedema (fluid build-up in lungs). Consult your doctor before taking NIKOS 5MG TABLET.

HEART DISEASE

NIKOS 5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with heart problems such as cardiogenic shock, left ventricular failure with low filling pressure and cardiac decompensation. It is used with caution in patients with heart failure. Consult your doctor before taking NIKOS 5MG TABLET.

OTHERS

NIKOS 5MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you have:

Signs of severe low blood pressure such as dizziness, light-headedness or feeling faint
Signs of low blood volume such as confusion, difficulty breathing or fast breathing, excessive sweating and loss of consciousness

Before taking NIKOS 5MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you have:

Low blood pressure
Signs of low blood potassium levels such as constipation, weakness, muscle damage
Havelucose-6 phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (aenetic condition)

Use in pediatrics:

NIKOS 5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (below 18 years of age). Consult your child’s doctor for advice.

Use ineriatrics:

NIKOS 5MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged above 65 years). Consult your doctor before taking NIKOS 5MG TABLET.

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug – Drug interactions:

Before taking NIKOS 5MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

Medicines used to treat erectile dysfunction (Ex. sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil)
Riociguat (used to treat high blood pressure in lung arteries)
Medicines used to treat inflammatory conditions such as corticosteroids (Ex. hydrocortisone, prednisolone)
Medicines used to relieve pain and inflammation (Ex. aspirin, ibuprofen)
Medicines used to treat heart conditions like high blood pressure, angina (Ex. enalapril, propranolol, valsartan and nitroglycerin)
Medicines that increase blood potassium levels (Ex. spironolactone)
Cyclosporin (used to prevent organ rejection after transplant)
Dapoxetine (used to treat premature ejaculation)
Medicines used to treat depression (Ex. nortriptyline, duloxetine)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of NIKOS 5MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are weakness, dizziness, fast or uneven heartbeat.
