 Calcitriol (Vitamin D) 0.25 mcg

CALCIT SG 0.25MG contains Calcitriol which belongs to the class of medications called vitamin D analogs. It acts in the body in a similar manner to Vitamin D.  Calcitriol is indicated in the management of calcium deficiency (hypocalcemia), in patients with chronic renal failure undergoing dialysis to treat bone disease and also in patients with hypoparathyroidism and rickets.

It helps patients with kidney or bone disease which cannot make enough of the active form of vitamin D in the body. It also supplies this form of vitamin D which the body can use to meet its requirements. It inhibits expression of PTH gene in parathyroid cells reducing PTH production. PTH is rapidly degraded in liver and kidney.

The most common side effect of taking this medicine is hypercalcemia (high calcium levels in the blood).  Do not take if you are taking medicines containing vitamin D. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Before taking this medicine inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or having any serious kidney or liver disease. Drink plenty of fluids to maintain good hydration while taking this medicine.

USES OF CALCIT SG 0.25MG
Treats calcium deficiency (hypocalcemia) and bone disease in patients with chronic renal failure undergoing dialysis, and with hypoparathyroidism (underactive parathyroid glands)
Treats rickets (bone disease)
HOW CALCIT SG 0.25MG WORKS

CALCIT SG 0.25MG elevates the plasma levels of calcium by stimulating intestinal calcium uptake, increasing reabsorption of calcium by the kidneys, and possibly increasing the release of calcium from skeletal stores. It works by helping the body to use more of the calcium found in foods or supplements and regulating the body’s production of parathyroid hormone.
