INTRODUCTION

AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE contains Itraconazole which belongs to the group of medicines called Anti-fungals. It is used to treat infections of the mouth or vagina (causing thrush), skin infections and infections affecting other parts of the body.

Fungal infections also known as mycosis is a disease caused by fungus, which can affect people of all age groups. People with injuries and suppressed immune system are more susceptible to fungal infections. 

AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients with kidney or liver problems and heart problems such as heart failure. AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE is not recommended for use in patients when the immune system is not functioning well or have acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). 

Do not take any medicine without consulting your doctor while on treatment with AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE especially medicines given to treat indigestion or stomach ulcers. If the duration of the treatment with AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE is more than a month your doctor will advise you to take some blood tests to monitor your liver function.  

AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless advised by the doctor and it is not recommended for use in breast-feeding women. AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE is not recommended for use in children less than 12 years of age, however your child’s doctor may advise them in special cases. 

AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE is normally not recommended for use in elderly patients, however, your doctor may prescribe them in special cases. The common side effects of taking AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE are stomach pain, nausea and headache. Consult your doctor if any of the side effects worsen.

HOW AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE WORKS

AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE works by preventing the fungal growth by blocking the production of enzymes responsible for the growth of fungal cell. This inhibition results in breakage of cell membranes and fungal cell abnormalities, finally leading to alterations in membrane-based activity of fungus. These leads to fungal cell death and prevention of further fungal growth. 

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

COMMON
Stomach pain, nausea

Irregular menstrual cycle
Sinusitis, runny nose, coughs, sneezing
Constipation, diarrhoea, flatulence

Blood disorders increase the risk of infections
Ringing in ears
Hearing loss (may be permanent)
Swelling due to fluid under the skin, hair loss
Redness, itching, flaking or peeling skin
Sensitivity of the skin to light
Erection problems

Stop taking AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

Severe allergic reaction (signs include swelling of the lips, face, throat, tongue or other parts of the body, rash, hives and severe irritation of the skin)
Tingling, numbness and weakness in the limbs
Severe skin disorders with peeling or rashes with small pustules (with a fever) or blistering of the skin, mouth, eyes and genitals with fever, chills, aching muscles and generally feeling unwell
Liver problems (sings include severe lack of appetite, nausea, vomiting, tiredness, stomach pain, muscle weakness, yellowing of skin and eyes (jaundice), dark urine, pale stools, hair loss)
Heart failure (sings include shortness of breath, weight gain, swelling of legs and abdomen, tiredness, breathing difficulties at night)
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Headache:

Drink ample amount of water and avoid skipping meals. Get adequate rest. Try to be relaxed and stress free. Apply pain relieving balm on your forehead if necessary. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.    

Nausea or vomiting:

Stick to simple meals while taking this medicine. Avoid eating oily rich, fried or spicy foods. Do not lie down or sleep immediately after eating. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.      

Diarrhoea:

Drink lot of fluids, such as water to keep yourself hydrated. Avoid eating high-fat or spicy foods. Try to avoid taking any medicine on your own to treat diarrhea and consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.       

Stomach pain:

Try to rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly or try to have smaller meals more frequently. Keep a heat pad on your stomach. If the symptom does not improve, consult your doctor.    

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY

AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless advised by the doctor. You should use contraception to make sure that you do not become pregnant during treatment with this medicine. Consult your doctor before taking AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE.

BREASTFEEDING

AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE is not recommended for use in breast-feeding women as small amount of this medicine passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

Do not drive or handle heavy machines if you experience dizziness, blurred/double vision or hearing loss while taking AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE.

ALCOHOL

Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE.

KIDNEY

AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems. Consult your doctor before taking AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE.

LIVER

AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients with liver problems such as jaundice. Consult your doctor before taking AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE.

ALLERGY

Do not take AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE if you are allergic to itraconazole or any other ingredients of this medicine.    

HEART DISEASE

AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients with heart problem such as heart failure. Consult your doctor before taking AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE.

OTHERS

AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE is not recommended for use if you:

Have acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) or your immune system is not functioning well

Use in paediatrics:

AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE is not recommended for use in children less than 12 years of age. However, your child’s doctor may advise them in special cases. Consult your child’s doctor for advice before giving AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE to your child.

Use in geriatrics:

AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE is not recommended for use in elderly patients. However, your doctor may prescribe them in special cases. Consult your doctor before taking AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE.

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Before taking AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

Medicines used to treat allergies or hay fever Ex. terfenadine, astemizole, ebastine, mizolastine
Medicines used to lower blood cholesterol levels Ex. atorvastatin, lovastatin, simvastatin
Medicines used to treat irregular heartbeat Ex. quinidine, disopyramide, dronedarone or dofetilide
Medicines used to treat chest pain and high blood pressure Ex. bepridil, , lercanidipine, ivabradine, ranolazine, nisoldipine, aliskiren, nadolol, digoxin, cilostazol dihydropyridines such as amlodipine, felodipine, verapamil
Medicines used to treat migraine headaches Ex. dihydroergotamine, eletriptan, ergotamine
Medicines used to treat drug abuse Ex. levacetylmethadol and methadone
Medicines used to treat digestive problems Ex. cisapride
Colchicine (used to treat gout)
Medicines used to treat fluid accumulation Ex. Eplerenone

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of AFITRA 100MG CAPSULE, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
